Children's Corner


Picture Books are some of the best books and though we don't devote a whole club meeting to them, they often come up in our discussions. Each month I'll share a few of my favorite books under a theme that ties in with our book club book. (Well, at least the title, since I haven't read the book yet!)

  • Mae and the Moon by Jami Gigot
Mae and the moon play games together. But one night the moon is just too good at hide-and-seek.

She takes such good care of her little house in the tree. Nothing could make her leave, except a maybe a mean, ugly gang! What's a squirrel to do?
  • Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion and Margaret Bloy Graham, illustrator.
Harry hates bath time, but discovers there are worse things.

What could be scary about an ordinary, little bubble? 

  • Not a box by Antionette Portis

How many times have you said, "I should have just gotten the box."
With a little imagination a simple box can be the most fun.
  • Open this little book by Jesse Klausmeier and  Suzy Lee, Illustrator  

It's a book, in a book, in a book. So cute!

The Sea


  • Swimmy by Leo Lionni
One little fish with a very big idea!
  • Three Bears in a Boat by David Soman


You break it, you buy it. These three bears went a little overboard with that.



  • I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean by Kevin Sherry
He's big, but maybe not as big as he thinks.

Fashion

  • Fancy Nancy by Jane O'Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser, illustrator
Her family may not be fancy, but they are always there for her. 
Nothing could be more fabulous than that.


  • Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina
Hats and monkeys don't mix. 


  • A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon
Figuring out what to wear with those colorful stripes is the least of her worries.

Gardens

  • Sophie's Squash by Pat Zietlow Miller and Anne Wilsdorf, illustrator
Sophie picks a squash for dinner, but plans change when it becomes her new best friend. 



My daughter loved this book so much she wrote her own story called Aly's Apple.

  • Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens
Tops or bottoms? It seems an easy choice, but bear never seems to get it right. 


  • Dirty Gert by Tedd Arnold
Gert loves dirt and never wants to leave it. 
But then Gert becomes dirt and things start growing all over her.
