Fan Food

Book club is more than food for thought.
Sometimes our hosts put together a savory spread inspired from the pages we read.

  • The Magic of Ordinary Days
Fresh from the farm: Beet bread with white chocolate sauce, beef stew and mixed berry pie.

  • The Lost Art of Dress
High heels as frivolous as cupcakes!

"If you cannot walk more than a block in your shoes, they are not shoes; they are pretty sculptures that you happen to have attached to your feet." Linda Przybyszewski

  • Garden Spells

Lavender Lemon Bars: Assures one will sleep for 9+ straight hours and have only pleasant dreams (not dreams about whales or Colin Powell playing tennis as discussed).

Caprese Salad: The basil aids in clarity fo the mind, being able to read others thoughts. The tomato will ease feelings of confusion when it come to important decisions.

Lime & Mint Mojitos: Will make one lose all inhibition. The stress of being the perfect wife and mother will dissipate as you become more relaxed.

  • Do Not Attempt in Heels
This book was all about the experiences of women missionaries around the world. Tara made food from Brazil to share with all of us a little bit of her experience as missionary there.

Cocada:
14 oz sweetened, shredded coconut
14 oz unsweetened, shredded coconut
1 can sweetened, condensed milk

Mix ingredients. Oil 13x9 pan and spread mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Cut into squares. Serve warm or cooled.

  • Life From Scratch
Angela made the German Tree Cake talked about in the book. It was beautiful and delicious and I didn't take a picture, (but I saw other people with their phones out, so send me a picture to post.)
  • The Help
Shelly served none other than chocolate pie! It was delicious, but I have to admit my fork was a little hesitant to put the first bite in my mouth.

  • Frankenstein
Amy made festive cupcakes that were monstrously tasty.
